Wow, what a game!
So, the Riders physically kicked the shit out of the Argos, including a sack at the end of the first half that left the Argo's QB, Wynn, on the field for the entire half time break. The hit on Wynn was one of the best hits I've ever seen in football, period.
If you haven't seen them, I recommend taking a look at the highlights. I can't get a direct link but here is a link to TSN's highlight page...scroll down to the CFL highlights and you'll find them.
Unfortunately, the highlights can't pass on the adrenaline rushes that the game provided...the Riders came back from 15 points down with 3 minutes left to go to bring the game within 2 points....unfortunately they failed to convert to tie up the game but 2 touchdowns and an onside kick recovery in less than 2 1/2 minutes....wow - I swear I could have picked up a car!
If you've never been to a Rider game, I highly recommend it.

The original voice actor from the 80's is doing the voice of Optimus Prime in the upcoming movie. Now if they would only get the original Starscream....
A bunch of gearheads involved in a cross-country race called the Bullrun came up with this neat little gizmo that will, a la James Bond, allow them to blur out their license plate at the flick of a button.
So hit the link and watch the 10 second video, then after you get out of The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift hook one of these suckers up to your rice rocket and let the drifting begin!

Yeah, no more V + down + down + 1 + CTRL + 4 anymore to get a little support defending the flag, now it's just "Bot 4! Flag! Gaurd!" as clear as you can into the mic. Too bad I'll need to sell one of my cars to get a computer that will run this game at more than 15 frames.
Actually, I've been thinking that I need a new computer really badly. My poor little 1.53 is just starting to choke these days. On the upside I just got this The Hulk game from 2004 that runs sweet (and looks really cool) on my existing setup.

Jay and I used to speculate about this sort of thing during marathon sessions of Rifts. Yet another piece of sci-fi come to life in my lifetime.

This senator has almost no fricking clue what he is talking about. I can't stand it that people like this are making important decisions.
An Interesting Suprise
This girl - Kinnie Star - was on stage for less than an hour, but her music and poetry was awesome. She had Don and I sucked right in for the whole act - the only shame was that it was so short. I usually don't succumb to CD purchases and what not at a show, but this one I bought.
Buck 65 was just killer - I had a suspicion this would be the case, but I was really impressed. It was him, a pianist (using a Korg and an old fat Moogand a Guitarist/Drummer (the guy alternated). Buck 65 is one of the most amazing scratch artists I have ever seen live - absolutely blew me away.
He mixed in a sort of comedy with his act that was brilliant and had a very theatric and physical way of performing that was as mesmerizing as his voice. All in all it was a fantastic time, and I'll be sure to hit his show anytime it comes through.
Anyway I've got this Kinnie Star CD that I intend to pass around. It is a kind of fusion, so there are HipHop elements, jazz, rock, pop and a bit of techno. Just ask if you are interested.
Weinie Roast (or "End of June Updated")
Thursday night Don and I are going to see Buck 65, anybody else? Going once! Going twice! Gone!!!! (but seriously, it should be super cool)
The game plan for Friday has radically changed as, I have learned, I am the only person that gets Friday as the stat (all other places of business get the Monday - go figure). I will therefore not be going to see Superman Returns, even though it would have been a brilliant plan.
Instead, I'll be using Friday afternoon to max and relax (and try and rid myself of this cold that CPM gave me - thanks babe, nice one, no really, cheers). Friday night is another matter...
A few people are commited to coming by (or should be commited for saying they would come by nuge) for some entertainment (board games probably?). More comers are welcome of course, and a few are just going to crash at my place.
Saturday is at Eagle Creek. This week is looking like it will stay hot so hopefully the standing water dries up and we have good weather continuing into the weekend. Should be a killer time.
Late Sunday afternoon a weenie roast has been planned at our place, starting around 4:30 pm. If you are interested in coming, just give us a call, we would love to have you! If the weather has gone sour by Sunday, we will hold off till Monday (since everybody has it off anyway).

End Of June
June is almost through and the promise of a warm sunny summer seem like a phantasm that threatens to appear but never does. Regardless, I plan on having some fun at the end of this month, and I thought I would see how many other people are up for what.
So:
Thursday, June 29th
Buck 65 is playing at the Odeon. Don and I are going for sure. If you don't know who Buck 65 is, I"m not suprised - but I think anybody would be suprised to find that he is a Canadian poet/musician that blends styles and sounds to create a "tech-folk" kind of music.
I plan on hitting the earliest show possible of "SuperMan" with my brother Rob. After the show I will drop him off at home and then head home to meet a few people out there. I'd like to try and hit Eagle Creek to see if Barry and crew need a hand with setup, or it might just be a good night for some board games if they don't need a hand.
Saturday July 1st
I'm really pumped about Saturday for obvious reasons. I plan to go early enjoy the afternoon with some DJ's playing and check out the bands. I play at around 10:30 pm in the Quad Creek Room and promise to play some slammin classic Hard House/Trance and some original tracks.
I've got Monday and Tuesday off of work so this is the entirity of my summer vacation. I'm sure I will be tired as hell by Monday but it will all be worth it. Give me a call or email if you want to join me for some of the above activites. Cheers!

You know I'm pretty sick right now and despite the fact that I feel like shit, am doped into stupidity by cold medication, and am stressed beyond belief about work this article puts a big ole smile on my face!
Y'all know who Uwe Boll is right? In case you've been fortunate enough to never hear of him, he is the prat that brought us the films: "Alone in the Dark," "House of the Dead," and most recently "BloodRayne." He is also making films based on Postal, Dungeon Siege, and Far Cry video games. All of his work is shit. All of it, without exception. If you feel the need to defend any of his work to me save your breath and assume that we will agree to disagree.
There's an interesting theory floating around that the reason Uwe kept getting financing for his films was that up until recently there was a German law that allowed you write off dismal film failures; and his backers were making money off of the crap he spewed forth. Well the law has been changed and hopefully Uwe will disappear.
In the meantime the arrogant kraut (he blames everyone but himself for the failure of his films) has decided that he's had enough of being citicized and has issued a challenge to critics that involves a boxing match with Uwe. I hope one of you can represent for us and kick the tar out of the little prat!

Free Flow
Hey people. Barry and Garret have asked me to play at a fairly large Canada Day party being held outdoors on - you guessed it - July 1st out at Eagle Creek.
There will be three outdoor stages, 2 bands playing during the day, camping, merchant tents, etc...
If anybody is interested, tickets are $10 from Mothers Music c/o Barry (665-9900). I'm playing a spot at midnight on Stage 2 (or B, or whatever they are going to call the second stage).
Eagle Creek is beautiful country, and very close to Saskatoon. Hopefully see some/all/a few of you there.
The War on New York City
Man, these Americans love their wars. Now NYC is even declaring war on the department responsible for protecting the "homeland". This would be high comedy if it were less tragic.
Also on the wind - it may be many many years (read 'never') before anything is constructed at the infamous Ground Zero location in New York. Maybe they can have a War on Ground Zero if they try really hard.
The Luddite has it right for the most part but I think he's missing the most important factor - the American media machine, which has hooked damn near every person in N. America, is controlled by the same people who run the rest of the US, the American oligarchy. The American people are in serious need of a wake-up, one they aren't going to get by watching the Colbert Report!

Water water everywhere
Well, not water maybe but beer. I guess when you are the last Canadian team in the playoffs and you come from a wealthy beer swilling province, you run the risk of causing a beer shortage.
We have it soooo easy when our biggest social problems are shortages of beer during sport playoffs. I guess it should be suprise that excess is "in". You get hours and hours of poker on TV now, encouraging people to go out and be like their card playing heros, go "all-in".
I'm "all-in" alright.

Spring Feva

Harley is putting together a gig for the May long weekend at Walkers Nightclub downtown on Saturday the 20th. There will be a wide range of styles in play that night.
Harley is spinning Breaks, for techno you get Garret (JADJ) leaning toward House, Terry (Ruxpin) rocking Acid style, and me working the hard techno/nuNRG angle. Add some Disco and we are really all over the place.
It is cheap and hey, what else were you doing this long weekend? It would be great to see some people out. Harley said he would like to me to play earlier, like 10pm or so. Haven't seen Tom play in forever - so that should be cool.

Silent Hill Movie Review
Last night I checked out the new Silent Hill movie and I was quite impressed. I have never played the video games so I can't really comment on how faithful it is, this is just my opinion of watching a random movie. I originally thought I was going to see some lame zombie movie. What I got was something much much better.
The movie definitely has a creepy edge to it right from the beginning this continues to build quite nicely to a feeling of overall horror that continues right through to the end of the movie. People who have watched scary movies with me know that I tend to find them funny and ridiculous. This movie is definitely not one of those, I was sufficiently glued to my seat wondering what twisted thing would happen next.
The exception was a scene where there were accusations of being a witch....... naturally I began to wonder if the accused weighed the same as a duck. It quickly became obvious that such scientific methods of determining a witch were not to be used in this movie.
Unlike many horror flicks this one did not disapoint in the end with some cheesy monster or lame plot device. This one stayed true to itself in a deliciously dark fasion.
So if you haven't quite caught on yet...... GO SEE THIS MOVIE.
Considering the current craze for poker (ESPN apparently considers it a sport now...) I thought this joke was well timed:
Two couples were playing poker one evening. John accidentally dropped some cards on the floor. When he bent down under the table to pick them up, he noticed Bill's wife, Sue, wasn't wearing any underwear under her dress.
Shocked by this, John, upon trying to sit back up again, hit his head on the table and emerged red-faced. Later John went to the kitchen to get some refreshments. Bill's wife followed and asked, "Did you see something that you liked under there?"
Surprised by her boldness, John courageously admitted that, well indeed he did.
She said, "Well, you can have it, but it will cost you $500."
After taking a minute or two to assess the financial and moral costs of this offer, John confirms that he is interested.
She tells him that since her husband Bill works Friday afternoons, and as John doesn't, he should be at he house around 2pm Friday afternoon.
When Friday rolled around John showed up at Bill's house at 2pm sharp and after paying Sue the agreed sum of $500 they went to the bedroom and closed their transaction, as agreed. John then quickly dressed and left.
As usual Bill came home from work at 6pm and upon entering the house asked his wife abruptly, "Did John come by the house this afternoon?"
With a lump in her throat Sue answered, "Why yes, he did stop by for a few minutes this afternoon."
Her heart nearly skipped a beat when her husband curtly asked, "And did he give you $500?"
In terror she assumed that somehow he had found out and after mustering her best poker face, replied, "Well, yes, in fact he did give me $500."
Bill, with a satisfied look on his face, surprised his wife by saying, "Good, I was hoping he did. John came by the office this morning and borrowed $500 from me. He promised me he'd stop by our house this afternoon on his way home and pay me back."
Now THAT, my friends, is a poker player!!

You know I've been out of the gaming scene for a bit (not for lack of effort by the most excellent Kyro - thanks dude, you rock) and seeing things like this gets me nostalgic for the days we sequestered ourselves in a little heated garage getting pinned and speaking in outta control accents while living the roller-coaster ride of Jay's games (best damn GM I've ever had). Part of me misses it all. Mayhaps I can make a cameo in someone's game...

If anyone is interested, I'd be willing to give this a shot. I'm thinking that next week - weekend would be the best time for me to start it up. I'm thinking I'll shoot for next Thursday night. I'm entertaining the in-laws this weekend so it won't work until they've left.

Well, I'm certainly not finished the song yet, I only have the general elements sorted out and laid down in a basic arrangement, but this is the first draft and I'm excited to share it. There is lots of low energy in this draft (in the 80 to 130 Hz range), so you may need a bigger set of speakers or good headphones to hear the bassline.
It is called Crawling Through and I'm hoping that people dig it. The final version of this song will get mastered around the end of May. I'm going to get my guitar cleaned and re-strung at Billy's shop and then re-record all the guitar and add some small synth lines and lyrics.
If anybody fancies themselves as either a poet or a singer, I would love to take any material you are inspired to write that goes to this tune and use it. If you want to submit it anonymously, that would be fine too... just email it to me at my gmail account and I won't tell who gave it to me.

For those of you who may not know I write movie reviews for a writers website out of Calgary: thatmoviesite.com (link in title above). Recently I had the extreme displeasure of posting my very first 1/5 rating on a film.
The horrible dog of a movie that robbed me of almost two hours of my life is
A Sound of Thunder. The review should be up in a day or two so you can read it at your leisure. This show is based on a great Ray Bradbury short story that I read years ago. I thought that it could be a good film, but apparently the studio decided to let a monkey behind the lens, and what we get is drivel.
Should Hollywood continue to make endless amounts of sci-fi movies, as is the current trend, even though most of them suck my left nut? I'm undecided on the topic. What I do know is that Hollywood should look to the past for a little direction. 30 years ago the major studios were putting out less than a dozen big films in a year, so quality was of an increased level; now it's more about quantity than quality, and I think it shows...
Your thoughts?

Revulsor (ahem, Revolver)
I watched this movie on the weekend, but after the first 50 minutes I can't honestly tell you why I finished it. I was drawn in by Jason Statham and the black dude from Outkast - but wish I could have taken a pass.
I have never seen such self-impressed drivel spewed out onto the screen so meaninglessly all the while pretending to be 'deep'. Confusing, annoying and pointless does not equal deep - if it did, then my day job would be a veritable nirvana of human existence.
Anybody else waste their time on this film? If so, how far did you get until you realized that Guy Ritchie had no intention of trying to resolve any of the paradoxes in the story or character development? Like I said, for me it was around the 45 minute mark, when no reason was provided for the mysterious disappearance of the "3 days to live" disease. Then near the end the scene in the bedroom just made me wish I hadn't even bothered with the film. The chess references which had the potential to be really powerful are instead laughable.
I've seen other movies that I'll never see again that I'm very glad to have seen ONCE (Requiem for a Dream leaps to mind). I recommend to people to see that movie ONCE. This movie will not get that dubious distinction.
(that's two down for Jason Statham now, Transporter 2 sucked so much hairy man-ass it brought a tear to my eye)

CPM and I came down with the most wicked cold that I've had since before I quit smoking. For most of the week leading up to Easter she had been getting little sleep and eating quick. Thursday (her last show night) she came home looking, well, looking really sick. I spent that week at my job working closely with a guy who said he had just gotten through one of the worst "sicks" that he had ever had while on a road trip (if he felt like CPM and me, I don't know how he survived it).
By Friday afternoon I could feel something was terribly wrong and I could see that CPM was in really rough shape - and there was nothing I could do but get some sleep and see how I felt Saturday morning.
Today is late Monday, and I've just now had the strength and clarity to come back to the keyboard. All the grandiose plans of getting out a bit this weekend got the kibosh. The dishwasher situation hasn't been addressed and I didn't make it into the attic to pull out the insulation from the water leak we had in March. We are both on our feet again, after having some real food driven out to us by good Samaritan.
Might try and make it into the city tomorrow, got a book to pickup and some other city related non-sense. Can't wait to go back to work Wednesday after having laid on my back for my entire 5 day vacation and accomplishing dick. On that note, how was everybody else's Easter weekend? Anything notable (and hopefully less unpleasant)?

As some of you know, I've battled with WOW like a schizophrenic lemming, coming close to the edge of addiction no less than three times only to flip on a dime to rant of my hatred for the life sapping behemoth that is now a ubiquitous pastime of gamers around the world (while secretly seething with the knowledge that my life demands I quest for complete and utter worth in my while) .
I truly hope WHO will end my misery but fear I will be disappointed. Nonetheless, I am willing to brave any online endeavor that might allow me to re-establish the social link with my kinfellows that I have been so sorely missing in this gaming wasteland that is small town Saskatchewan.

Well, the global warming thing is no chance game anymore - only the Bushies have yet to figure it out. It is neat to see what 7m of water can do the coastal communities of England. Hey Phoenix? Are you getting this?
Well, that auction on Saturday was a total waste of time. The first of the AMD machines went for well over $700, followed by basically the rest of the machines in a lot for $650 a piece (and that is with nothing included) which eliminated any further bidding on towers, it was a joke.
Other notables:
the 19" flat screen went for more than $300
the three 17"s went for more than $200 each
the BROKEN 19" went for $125 IIRC !!
faux leather chairs went for more than $60 and guys were taking groups of 7 or 14.
It was chaotic (there was not enough room for cars outside let alone adequate space for people to view the items for auction or even see the auctioneer booth),
overcrowded (at one point, behind where my father-in-law and I were standing, a Corman park park police woman came in a threatened to shut the whole affair down in violation of the fire code for access to exits),
and poorly organized (half-way through the computer stuff, there was a seguey to cars, then another switcheroo to some hair salon stuff).
At one point I asked a bid spotter for clarification on what items were going - and then was reprimanded by the auctioneer for having my info wrong when I was trying to grab the wrong item! I was furious - but supressed my rage and continued to swap comments of ridicule about the high price of goods paid by idiots who robbed us of our opportunity for good hardware for cheap.
I was amazingly pissed off for the rest of the day. But what did I get? Some good headphones for Morgan and I to use for just normal use (my Sony V-700's aren't great for Warcraft). And I might get a line on one of those pistol mice units from Orange yet too.

I am not sure if you all are up on what Tom Cruise has been up to with his Scientology stuff, but here is a link the latest stunt from him, and the episode in question, it is the full episode so you are going to need 22 minutes to watch it, but it is well worth it.

Starship CD
This is certainly the most expensive CD player I've seen in a long while. I personally like the way that it incorporates a vacuum tube stage to return an analog warmth to the digital reproduction. Maybe if I ask nice, CPM will let me get one, ya think?

I know alot of you wern't affected by this, and it didnt really affect me, but it is a HUGE win for RIM. The whole case in my opinion was stupid and we should have sent in Dick long before the lawsuit ever got to where it is.
I am not sure how many of you have been following it (or aware), but the only country that NTP was actually able to get thier case to court was in the US. Every other country that they tried to sue RIM it was thrown out.
NTP attempt to get them shut down NEVER would have happen. The system that RIM has developed is the MOST secure system out there, and because of that most of the nations aggincies (us and canada) use it for communication. The RCMP (would assume CSIS), FBI and others are all set up on the Blackberry devices, so even though it did get pretty far in the courts, it never would have been alloud to shut down.
I am just glad to see that RIM walked out of this alive and kicking. A little poorer, but kickin none the less.

Well it wasn't as I had feared...my new school division did not opt to take "the Donut Division" as its new name.
For those of you who hadn't heard, my division amalgamated (to save money - although none of our highest paid administrators lost their jobs. Can you say redundant?). This means that Sask. West, East, and Valley school divisions are now one - da da da The Prairie Spirit School Division. This effectively makes a circle or donut around Saskatoon ( the hole, as the gag goes).

All Those Computer Parts
As some of you may know, I was looking at putting a bid in on a whole shwack of computers that are going for auction per the folding of XGX a month or two ago.
I had originally envisioned putting a partial bid in for a large segment of goods available. I phoned the law office responsible today to discuss and he informed me that my bid would only get me invited to the item by item auction to be held on a date in the near future when all workstations, chairs, X-Boxes, etc... will be sold per unit.
I gave the individual my contact info and said that I would appreciate the chance to come down and bid. I don't know what day it will be, but if anybody wants to come with me and bid on items directly I'm sure that would be fine. I plan to buy a number of high-end machines, flat panels, and chairs.

I just heard about the million dollar web page. How is it that some people can be so lazy and come up with such simple ideas, and yet I can't get past the time old tradition of "work hard for your money". Honestly, even if I could conjure up a "pet rock" scheme, I don't know if I'd have the moral conscience to go ahead with it. But I think it says somewhere that the meek will inherit the earth...? *fingers crossed*
Got Blokus?
Played a game called Blokus last night with Vin and his brothers. Beautiful looking game that plays fast and is very engaging.
This demo basically shows you an entire game (gotta enable popups for the demo to show). I'm going to buy this game today or tomorrow and really hope that I get a chance to play it again this weekend.
Speaking of this weekend, Terry is coming back into town and he was thinking it would be rad to get together and spin some records. Either here at my place or at Harley's on Saturday night sounds like it would be best. Email or call me if you are interested in showing up.

Madden and Michaels TOGETHER!
I'm ecstatic over the new development that puts John Madden and Al Michaels together again on the Sunday Night NFL game on NBC. I tell you, I felt crushed that the pair was going to be split up at the end of this year. The last Monday night regular season game really felt like the end of an era.
Instead we can look forward to another exciting season of John and Al - as it should be - just on a different night. It's funny how things work out sometimes.

Ok, so I'm being dragged kicking and screaming into the world of the BLOG. In fact I have been told that I will be assimilated and some nonsense about "resistance being futile". SO BLOG me up baby 'cuz here I am!
Well, as many of you know I work retail, and as some of you may know this is the slowest time of the year in retail. So to keep myself as sane as I can I troll the internet all day, and in my adventures I sometimes come across some interesting sites and products. I have been sending the links to Jay for some time, titled ‘Link of the Week’, which usually ended up being one a day.
