Jay and I used to speculate about this sort of thing during marathon sessions of Rifts. Yet another piece of sci-fi come to life in my lifetime.

How long before someone packs himself in an oil drum and tries to fire himself out of one of these?
I really hope this R&D program is successful. When the technology becomes generally available for civilian use it will be key in the construction of a functional Bifrost Bridge ( "fire all of your guns at once and, explode into space..." ).
Hmmm. You mean I could have a 32 megajoule railgun prototype OR a lovely Bahamas beachfront property on which to park my lovely Tucker #1043?
