You are not actually going to Vista are you?
Umm...
Hello?
Is this thing on?
Is there anybody out there?
But seriously, just look at the cost again...
$996.61
That is the cost to refurbish my BRAND NEW 3.2 GHz Pentium D machine. That $K can be used to rectify my missing USB MIDI Keyboard and turntable problem waaaaaay before it will go to schlepping some new MicroWhore product.
It is worth noting that you picked some of the more expensive options.
You could pull off most of this switch-over for less, at least $250 less just at a quick glance.
Having said that however, I still have no intention of switching over, at least not for a good long while...
Well, not much less.
The video card is entry level DirectX 10, I currently have a D processor, which would probably get me by, so we'll leave that alone, but I'll need at least another 1 GB of memory (I'm only running 1 GB currently, which is really criminal even with XP-MC).
So, new tally:
Video Card: $259
RAM Upgrade: $112
Vista: $247
Total cost: $618
This would still cover the cost of my new Axiom 25 and a good digital turn table.
Which is why people aren't moving to Vista in any sort of numbers. I saw today that in China, in the 2 weeks Vistas been out, they sold something like 244 copies. In two weeks. With a population of how many billion.
Thus Microsoft has to force you to get it, by discontinuing XP. I really hope Vista here causes people to look to more reasonable alternatives, and cuts down on MS's market share.
