It was bound to happen, as I continued to experiment with ambient music I knew I wouldn't be happy releasing it under the name "Kyro". Then one day in a fit of twitter nonsense I arrived at the following equation:

möbius loop + double entendre = möbius entendre

I liked it so much, I decided to use it as my ambient pseudonym. As DKellowz pointed out in a hashtag followup - #justifiedUmlautFTW - which only served to make me think of the KLF and the Justified Ancients of MuMu (otherwise known as "The Jams") and I was sold on it.

Feels good to finish a track even if it's not related to any current on-going projects (all of which need real attention soon, and I'm aware of that). But right now, the question is: what's for lunch?

I know this is old news, but I had never seen the video for it until tonight.  It's pretty politically charged, I'm a big fan of the way it ends.

After almost twenty years Devo returns as geriatric, angrier, nerdier, sarcastic nihilists.

I was never a fan of Devo, didn't get much enjoyment out of their music. In fact the only person I personally know who ever listened to Devo for pleasure is Kyro, and his tastes tend to be very, uh, unique to him. (Said with the utmost love and respect for my old friend!)

The link sends you to an article talking about Devo's new album and a wee bit of their history that actually put the band in a much better light for me. I didn't really appreciate just how counter-culture these guys were and still are. They hate commercialism, so much so that they write pop songs dripping with sarcasm to sell to the dumb-ass masses who eat it up, especially in our current climate of Geek-chic.

There are a couple of videos at the link as well, from a live performance on Jimmy Kimmel. I don't like the first single, Fresh, but I do dig the other song, What We Do, I can relate to it.

So read the article, listen to the tunes, get a chuckle, think a bit, grudgingly admit that Kyro is not completely mental (not completely...), and whip it, whip it real good!

Exploration #4 - Inspired by the novel House of Leaves, this track is an experiment in soundscaping and abstract use of atmospherics. It does have musical elements however - I'm partial to the reprise of the filtered attacking synth toward the end (a few of the shorter stab notes have been dropped and the beat is gone allowing it to really float against the noise in the not to distant background).

Ghostheory - Originally called "Game Theory", this track evolved from minimal techno into a thumping floor burning banger. I'm really fond of the transition from the breakdown to the full on beat and then how it is able to slip out of it again. Also, look for the ghost, it's in there (a subtle moving soft almost organic synth sequence slowly appearing and disappearing in the background).

I gladly accept all criticisms and comments.

Those of you that know me know I'm a Jazz guy. I was reading the announced concerts this year for the Jazz Festival. Some pretty sweet acts coming.

Antibalas, DJ Champion, Joshua Redman, Jeff Healey, Oscar Lopez (Although I don't think that one's announced yet, so you didn't hear that from me), and Herbie Hancock. (Pictured to the right. Doesn't he just scream cool jazz?)

Anyone looking for me the entire week of June 23rd to June July 1st, I'll be at the Bess Gardens.

It is Billy's birthday right quick, and he has asked me to come and play at the party he is throwing at Diva's nightclub (yes, that is the gay club downtown). I'm playing early, which is cool by me, from 10 pm to 11:20 pm (or so). I told him I'm going to play "punchy psy-tek", but I really have no idea what that is... it should be interesting. That is April, Friday the 13th (oooh, scaaarryy).

In other news, DJ Rasta (formerly from Saskatoon, currently hailing from Edmonton) has asked me if I'm interested in doing a radio show on Friday's from 6pm to 8pm. Broadcast is over the web. If my Internet connection is fast enough (here's hoping) it should be groovy.
