Even if I saw to it to have the kid taught to breakdown and assemble a weapon like this (and someone else would have to do it b/c there's no way I could show her), she would never take that to the next level and put herself in a combat situation.
I recently mused about compelling urges to serve my country in a combat capacity, and she remarked: "daddy, you would never do that to us would you?", to which I replied... "do what exactly?" and she told me that she didn't care what happened in the world - but that I was not allowed to join any army, ever. My job was to stay home and be with them.
Point taken.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and make one final comment: I think people have got a few of their priorities out of order. As far as I can tell, it's: Family, Country, God (and not the reverse order). Maybe if that prioritization was more prevalent, fanaticism would hold less of a grip on our world (or maybe not).
It's a sad state of affairs that in many parts of the world scenarios like that depicted in the video are just a regular part of life.
Recently I saw images (of Burma I think, maybe Georgia as well) of kids as young as 7 not only being taught this kind of stuff, but of the same kids going mostly willingly into combat. It's heart-breaking to see kids violently robbed of their youth, jaded into bitterness before puberty hits, full of hatred and lacking respect for life.
Having said all that, I take hope in a better future when I spend time with some kids (like Kyro's) who are thoughtful, respectful, and positive. It makes me a wee bit more comfortable that the world may end up in better hands than mine. And then I go back to being an idiot...
Did anybody see Palin talk on Wednesday night. Most of what she had to say was exaggeration and outright lies (like saying "no thanks" to the bridge to nowhere money she lobbied for, as if...), but she was stunningly good at her delivery. Makes McInsane look like an idiot just when they stand together. What scares me, is that she will appeal strongly to uninformed American citizens who can't stand how polished and well spoken (and dare I say African American) Obama is. I mean, Palin is really well spoken too, but she is speaking their kind of lingo.
Last thought: how is that Republicans are so quick to protect unborn life, but so quick to want to destroy life that has already been among the living for a few days. The mind boggleth.
Your question/observation put me in mind of a George Carlin clip I watched a while back from puredoxyk's site. Because George is always good to listen to/watch, here's the link again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrXvDXVhqfU
