Hollywood is a business town first. It's the suits that have the money and control where it goes, and those same suits do have literal formulas that they use for everything. "new, exciting, innovative" usually means, to those guys, "untested, uncertain, expensive" which is why so many things feel the same: they are.

Just a potential counter point. We thought this trailer rocked the house because we are fans. A trailer made by a fan for fans will always appear better but not necessarily appeal to the largest number of people. This trailer had zero story, all action which is fine for someone who knows what's what. You'd never sell a movie based on this me thinks. The suits have to sell to Bob and Jane NoSciFi first cause they know they got the fanboys already.

In other news, the Bond franchise is dead b/c MGM is toast. Nobody told me.

Maybe they should start trying some substantially different things and spend less money doing it.

Kyro, the Bond franchise is not dead. It's been said before and will be said again, but the audience is there and the rights will become the property of another studio to produce anyways (I think the Broccili family of producers actually own the rights). After all, Bond is still a proven moneymaker.

Pseudorequiem. I disagree with your counterpoint. Plenty of eye-candy only, action-driven trailers that have little to do with the story are released that help movies with shitty stories to sell (-cough- A-Team -cough- G.I. Joe -cough-).

Selbonaut. I would argue that fans make 1000X better trailers because they care. That, and they actually understand the material better than the Trailer Director (an actual career path) who does a half dozen of these each week.

Just to add to my Kyro point: MGM also owns the rights to the Hobbit, but that's being made. Fear not my friend, Bond, James Bond, is only taking a break to shag some foxes and have some bevvies.

This re-trailer just keeps getting better every time I watch it. It's like 14.5x better than the actual trailer, and possibly on the same footing as the Derezzed video by Daft Punk.
