I’m perfectly happy to defend most of his (Bush) surveillance, interrogation and counterterrorism policies against his critics.

That column seemed rather one dimensional to me.

Kristol may raise a good point or two about some of Bush's accomplishments, but until the list of accomplishments comes close to the same length of very questionable, and outright stupid/wrong, decisions/legacies of the jr Bush then I fail to see why anyone should celebrate him - especially Americans...

"His ordering the surge of troops to Iraq in January 2007 was an act of personal courage and of presidential leadership."

~twitch~ Ordering others into a warzone isn't an act of personal courage...Courage would have been leading the first wave of the invasion rather than sitting nice and safe in the White House. Instead the worst danger he faced was having a shoe thrown at him. I may not be in favor of the war but that comment really seems to neglect the courage of the actual soldiers.
