We have less than a 0.6 vacancy rate, and yet people are still clammering to get in... haven't they seen that we are the the 2nd least-desireable city to live in???

Statistics mixed with shitty reporting = misleading stories.

The report is based on the number of reported incidents of crime. What the study really shows is that people in Saskatchewan still feel that their police can do something for them. Therefore, they report.

For example, we'll take Saskatoon's big crime - sexual assault.

University city +
penchant for binge drinking +
strong possibility that somebody at the bar knows the offender's particulars =
confidence that reporting the problem may result in a resolution.

Additionally, Saskatchewan has the highest number of police officers per capita, followed by Manitoba.

Finally, the rankings will be based on per capita and since Saskatoon and Regina have some of the smallest populations, each incident is that much more significant. If Mayerthorpe, Alberta had been included in the study in 2005, it's four murders would likely have put it on the top of the list as the homicide capital of Canada that year. I note, however, that this factor also plays a part in our high rates of officers per capita.

Just my $0.02.

Yeah, sure am glad I live in the boonies. Nobody can find me out here to assault me.

Now the locals on the other hand...
