XP Back on the Table @ Dell

Posted by Unknown On 2007-04-20 4 comments

This should make folk like Selbonaut happy, as I last heard he was still hunting for a laptop that would come with XP on it still, now we have time to look at different Dell offerings that do.

This BBC article is referenced in the Wired article, I like the bit by
Michael Silver, research vice president at analysts Gartner. What a loon.

I also am pleased with this announcement, but I wonder how long it will last. Did Microsft themselves say that XP would no longer be provided in 2008? Maybe a company like Dell saying they will continue to offer it will force Microsoft to continue work on XP.

I'm more interested in a Linux enabled laptop personally, but I am glad that XP is remaining an option.

I think you are onto something... it is not a good thing that XP is back on the table... it is a good thing that being railroaded into VISTA (even for the hopelessly MicroWhored user such as myself) has been taken off the table.

Don't kid yourselves, Gates & Co. will still turf XP in '08, leaving Dell owners to deal with substandard Dell techs for issues.

And then you're still stuck with a choice of Vista or Vista, or make the jump to Linux, Ubuntu, or whatever tickles your fancy.

Can't win for loosing, hey? Maybe we should start our own company and become obscenely rich in a decade or two...

Well that does make me happy. I checked out the can, us and UK web site's and none of them have it up yet. I am going to be needing to buy a laptop for school next year, so if any of you have been hearing great things about a perticular brand please let me know. I have somewhat given in to the idea that I will have to have Vista.
